Mugen Preview: Shades of Manhattan 2

You may know Sean Altly best for his work with Rorschach, but he is one of the best Mugen creators when it comes to original character creations too. Not only does he develop an entire back history to fit the move set for these characters, but there are woven into a passion project for him, Shades of Manhattan...and in the case of this preview video, its sequel.

Grudge Match: Green Arrow vs Rorschach

Could Rorschach beat Green Arrow? I don't really think so. Not even close. Green Arrow is well-trained - better than Rorschach - and better weapons. I staged a fight in MUGEN - AI controlled.

Survive This - Rorschach

It's been a real long time since I did a video using Rorschach in MUGEN. It's an excellent character and really fun to play with! It really reminds me of the way he is portrayed in the comic book and the movie. It is spot on. I played with the character in MUGEN's Survival mode. Here was the result

Grudge Match: Joker vs Rorshach

I like Rorschach. I really do, but when it comes down to who would be doing smacking if he fought the Joker, I have to give it to the Joker. No way could Rorschach win. Rorschach is numb to violence, who believes that the he must do the right thing no matter what. The Joker is amoral. He has no such compunctions He is worse than any criminal Rorschach has ever faced. I'm sorry but there is no way Rorschach could win this one.

Grudge Match: Ella vs Rorschach

What would happen if Ella, from The Ring movies fought Rorschach, from Watchmen? Well, I think that due to the fact that Rorschach is just a man and Ella is dead and has supernatural abilities, I think Ella would win. I admit that Rorschach would not make it easy for her. Grudge Match: Batman vs Rorschach

Let me be straight: Batman would kill Rorschach. Don't get me wrong. I like Rorschach. He's probably my favorite character in Watchmen. However the illustration at the left shows the only way such a battle could end. Rorschach getting his butt handed him: pimp-slapped! When you add Rorschach and Nite Owl together what do you get? Batman. When you take Batman and subtract the gadgets, the disciplined training and martial arts, and no-kill-rule what do you get? Nite Owl. When you take Batman and subtract the attitude and detective skills what do you get? Rorschach. Not hating on the Watchmen but Batman would take them all. I think he could even find a way to beat Manhattan. Anyway, I staged the following fights in MUGEN.

Grudge Match: Punisher vs Rorschach

The long-awaited character for Mugen, Punisher by ApoCaLySe, has been released. It got me wondering what would happen if Punisher fought Rorschach from Watchmen? In my opinion, they have much in common and probably would not fight, however if they did fight Punisher would skunk him. I say that because Punisher would just shoot Rorschach and be done with him. I thought that it would be great to stage this fight in Mugen.

Grudge Match: Deadpool vs Rorschach

Deadpool and Rorschach are awesome characters no matter what genre you enjoy them in. I saw ItsJustSomeRandomGuy's video featuring these characters and it got me wondering: It they fought, who would win? My money is on Deadpool in a true death match because Deadpool is insane and practically a ninja. Rorschach is just psychotic. Edge: Deadpool. So I staged a fight in Mugen and come to find out that both characters are so well designed that not only are computer controlled matches close but fun to match. So I set up a video showing best 2 out of 3 battles.

Mugen:Rorschach

When Watchmen first came out, I was about 10 or 11 so I have not read it. With the new movie coming out in one month, I've decided to not read the comics or look up any information until after the film. It may be interesting going into the movie without a lot of knowledge of the world the movie takes place in. At the same, the story is seminal - influencing modern storytelling in fundamental ways. I don't know everything about Rorschach but I do know he is important to the story and I was overjoyed to see that Sean Altly decided to make him into a mugen character. Hopefully mugen version of other Watchmen characters will show up. It's a well-done character I enjoy using it. It was released 02/04/09 according the Mugen Guild forum. Also, Mr. Altly, has gone on record saying that he will release a patch to tweak Rorschach's AI so that he will be awesome when controlled by the computer. ***Important Note About AI***
Right now, Rorschach does not have a custom AI. However, Kamekaze is working on one, but it may take a while. When it's done, I'll release a simple patch, so be patient, for he will be a BEAST.
