Survive This: Iron Lantern

Iron Lantern is a great character from the amalgam story arc combining Iron Man and Green Lantern. I took the character through the MUGEN survival mode. This version is a whole lot of fun!

Mugen Super Soldier

I like this character. I steam rolled all my opponents fairly quickly. I had fun playing with Super soldier. It felt like being Captain America with Superman's powers which is how I envisioned the character. The SGM Team did a great job. In the character's Readme file it was said that some people would think that it was overpowered but I don't think so. This character should be in your MUGEN deck.

SGM Anniversary Recap Day 3

Day number three for SGM's first anniversary event brings forth another guest appearance. This time by the Scruffy Dragon Productions team.

The Scruffy team released Pocket Kon-El (also known as Superboy to some) at SGM. You can also get the stage shown in the video. Special thanks to Kojunho on the sprites, with Magus and Seth Z did the coding.

And now....

This is a premiere video showing more of the DCvM project by the Scruffy team. I don't want to give away any teaser information, but make sure you watch that video, as it's pretty awesome.

So go to http://sicgraphicsmugen.darkbb.com/portal.htm to download Pocket Kon-El with his stage, and check out the discussion on that DCvM video.

By the way, IMT had a later gift that did not make yesterday's recap. An update to the Punisher. No new moves, but multiple adjustments that you will appreciate. Again, check it and everything else out at SGM.

SGM Anniversary Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the SGM 1 year anniversary involved special guests of the Infinity Mugen Team. Their part included releasing an update to an EoH character and an announcement of a new IMT project. This info debuted on the SGM site as part of this event.

The new IMT project is Robot Master Mayhem and the following preview will give you a glimpse as to what is in store.

sentry
The next part of this guest starring role involved an update to Sentry by Acey.

Download the new version of Sentry and check out everything else at:

SGM Anniversary Day 1 Recap

Day 1 of the SGM First Year Anniversary Event is in the books. We were treated to two never before video updates of two of their characters.

Super Soldier is the Amalgamation of Superman and Captain America. As you can see in the video, he's looking pretty good. Duratan is doing an amazing job on him. You can follow that progress here:
http://sicgraphicsmugen.darkbb.com/character-wip-f10/aos-character-wip-super-soldier-t79.htm?sid=3c61abb1b95fd3afaab8fa36c400c07d

Hyena is an Amalgam character that combines Sabretooth and the Joker. Sic-1 is making him look pretty monstrous, but at the same time with a Joker (he is a huge fan of the him) flare. You can follow that progress here:
http://sicgraphicsmugen.darkbb.com/character-wip-f10/new-hyena-wip-updates-t449.htm?sid=48d62159b28bbcb73c7c8005b385234c#4215

As for releases, you may or may not be aware, but SGM has branched out into more than just Amalgam characters. The first release of that magnitude was part of this event. Sic-1 released Grandmaster Ryu. Here was his last video showing him in action.

You can download him at:

SGM's Year 1 Bash

Not sure what they have in store, but I'm looking forward to that day. What really intrigues me is how Scruffy Dragon and IMT will be involved. SGM does have a relationship with Scruffy, so that is not as big of a surprise. But knowing that IMT has been doing something with them now is truly from left field.

Here are some other things to consider:
- Is there a reason why Super Solider, Amazon, Hyena, and Dr. Doomsday are shown in their promo picture?
- Sic-1 made it known he was doing a lot with Hyena. But recently he's been taking on other WIPs (Grandmaster Ryu, IMT's Two-Face) Does this mean Hyena is completed and just waiting for this date?
- It was said both Iron Lantern and Thanoseid were going to get upgrades, will these be released then?

Whatever it is, I can't wait, and I hope you are anticipating it as much as I am. So make sure you go to: Sic Graphics Mugen - Amalgam Project today!

And definitely make sure you are there 8/8/09!

Volzzilla's Mugen Reviews: Iron Lantern by tenchimuyo4ever, Sic-1, and Twinimage

The following is part of CVGUnited's database where comprehensive reviews are given by me, and allow for the community to offer similar content and give their own ratings of the characters. To check it out, go to:

CVGUnited.com's Character Review Database

This is the character that started it all for the Amalgam: Age of Superheros project. Tenchimuyo4ever had started this character WIP before there was even a project and this inspired Sic-1 to look him up to start said collaboration. Tenchi did all of the sprites, of which there are a lot done by freehand. Sic-1 and Twinimage handled the coding side of things. Because this character was the basis of starting it all off, this is why he was saved for the final release of the group's guest portion of Scruffyversary.

Obviously from the look, you can tell he is a combination of his DC and Marvel counterparts to form this Amalgamation. I like it and how he gave him a hovering stance to separate things a little more. He has some intros to correspond to these guys which are interesting, but I wish the volume on his sayings there were turned up a little bit more. The AI is interesting, sometimes he puts good use to his hypers, and sometimes not. But he does a good job implementing his specials though.

I love all of his basics, even took the time to show them off in the training mode portion of this video. They are very imaginative. And in case you do not know about this character's Amalgam history, basically he has a set of armor that works similarly to a Green Lantern ring, but focuses mainly on making technological constructs whenever needed. This theory is put to good use in the basics as stated before, as well as with the special and hyper moves.

*Specials*
-----------------
- Repulser Beam: Similar to an Iron Man beam attack, but with a GL feel
- Weapon Master: Constructs 3 different guns to attack, dependent upon the button selected
- Magneto Envy: Creates a magnet that fires a charge at the opponent to pull them close for additional attacks
- Emerald Charge: Charging attack, both from air and ground
- Teleports: Can teleport to either side of the screen, depending on the button selection
*Hypers*
---------------
- Armor Hyper: Pulls out the heavy artillary
- Emerald Drill: Constructs a set of armor with some powerful drills for attack
- Sonic Charge: Very powerful charge attack
- Airforce Assault: Creates a large flying machine to attack with either bombs or lasers

There are a couple little issues. The current readme has some of the attacks listed wrong, so use:
Emerald charge: (QCB + K)
Airforce assult: (QCB + PK)
Tenchi has stated this will be adjusted soon for when the download home is moved back to SGM. In the discussion on the release, he has also stated that some of the code numbers for attacks might be tweaked as well. The main thing I saw was every so often (I think during Magneto Envy usage by the AI), he will either disappear to the top of the screen or the bottom for a time. But usually he comes back after awhile. I might be mistaken as to when this happens, I just know I saw it a couple times before making this video.

In short, very creative character and I admire all the freehand work that Tenchi put into him to make him stand out. This character finished off the Amalgam showcase for Scruffyversary very well.

You can find him at the downloads section of:
http://sicgraphicsmugen.darkbb.com/

My score: 8

And take this link if you would like to offer up any discussion on the character and/or offer up your own review:

Sic Graphics Mugen Team Website Update

Sic-1 has recently totally overhauled the main SGM home website. You should already be checking the place out, as it has a great game project in their Amalgam: Age of Superheroes project, which if you did not know, works with Amalgam characters who are a combination Marvel and DC couterparts.

But that is not all. They have a few new features there and are branching out more into other projects, most notably Sic-1 creating Grand Master Ryu. See a video for him here:

What If?…Characters That’d Be Cool If MUGENized #3

Disclaimer: Most of the following characters not only haven’t been made yet, but there are not even publicly known plans to bring them to Mugen either. The purpose of this article is solely for entertainment, and not meant to tell any creators who to work on, nor is it intended to be thought of as a “Wish List” of characters I want made. However, if anyone becomes inspired enough to begin a WIP on any of the characters discussed, then that would be a bonus.

Amalgam Style
After a hiatus from this series due to Mugen Madness, coverage of the release parties and my new role with http://cvgunited.com I thought the best place to resume this series would be with the Amalgam characters due to their recent event and the awesome hyper that HCF put on Starfire. So I went through the entire Amalgam universe of characters to find the ones I thought were the coolest ones that I do not think are a part of the Amalgam: Age of Superheroes project. This was not easy, as they seem to have most of them covered. I was able to find a few, but for all I know, some of them might be secret WIPs. Anyway, here are my favorites:

Shatterstarfire

Okay, you can see her as part of HyperCombinationFinish’s Amalgam Hyper (and I thank him for that), but that is not enough for me. I am already partial to Shatterstar (check my avatar at IMT), so anytime there is a focus there, I like it. For those of you who do not know, Shatterstarfire is an Amalgamation of DC’s Starfire and Marvel’s Shatterstar. So a MUGENized version of this character would have both of they’re strengths in the fighting ability and use of swords of Shatterstar, while also having the ability to fly, super-strength, and various energy projectile attacks of Starfire. That could be a fun character, but until then, play with HCF’s Starfire and pull off as many Amalgam hypers as you can.

For more information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shatterstarfire

Dare

Her real name is Slade Murdock and she is an Amalgam of Daredevil and Deathstroke, but then made female (because comic companies try to go sexy when they can.) She, like her Marvel counterpart is blind from an accident, but attained hypersenses also as a result. The most important part of this extended ability allows her an internal radar similar to that of Daredevil. Then throw in the fight training of her DC counterpart and that is where you get Dare. Plus, Mugen can always use more characters that wear an eyepatch.

For more information:

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/amaldare.htm

Big Question

If we are going to talk about Dare, then we might as well talk about her arch nemesis as well. The Big Question is an Amalgamation of Kingpin and the Riddler and he was the one that subjected Dare to the accident that rendered her blind which also gave her the hypersenses spoken of above. He has the same evil nature of Kingpin, with the command of mob henchmen, but also the expert ability of judo which can be deadly in a man of his stature. And he does all of this while subjecting whoever to riddles and traps in the same fashion as The Riddler. However, giving those clues is also his main weakness, same as with Edward Nigma. But he might be a case where his Amalgam character would be better than either of his mainstream comic counterparts because of this combination.

For more information:

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/bigqustn.htm

Terra-X

Like Terra and Terrax, who are her respective DC and Marvel counterparts, Terra-X has the ability to manipulate the molecules of earth and rock…but she has even further control than they do. First, she has the ability to transform her very body into these substances, be it hard as a rock, or even into dust and not be harmed. But she can also combine with the very ground itself and come up with any attack that is possible from this state. So then when you couple all of that with proficiency at using her long-handled axe, and you have a character that would dominate in the MUGENverse.

For more information:

http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/amterrax.htm

Sinistron

I am pretty sure that the SGM Amalgam guys have their boss characters set for their project, but if they ever decide on doing a sequel, then the coupling of Ultron and Mr. Sinister would have to be their man. Can a character get any more evil when you combine the ruthlessness and computer calculation of Ultron with the scheming ability of Mr. Sinister? I’m sure you said yes, but now what if we combine all that in an adamatium body that has the limitless capacity to create any weapon he can think of. And one of those weapons can actually take control of other people’s minds. Then throw in flight, durability, super-strength, and forcefield projection, and Sinistron would be a force to be reckoned with.

Mugen: Iron Lantern

Iron Lantern is an amalgam of Iron man and Green Lantern. Iron Lantern is the character you would get if Tony Stark had Green Lantern's power ring. The character's alter ego is Hal Stark. You can find out more about the character by going to the following two links:

I really like this character. I had an older version of Iron Lantern that really was an Iron Man edit. However, this character is not just an Iron Man edit. It has all new moves and looks very faithful to the way the character looked in the comic books. My favorite move is the one where Iron Lantern makes a green magnet to grab an opponent. I am also impressed with the way he just whips out different weapons as green energy weapons. Here is a video of me putting the character through its paces. I'm going to need a lot more practice to use the character to its full potential. You have got to try this one out!

Mugen: Thanoseid

Thanoseid is a mashup of Thanos and Darkseid. I can't say I remember much about him from the 1996 limited series. But given that Thanos and Darkseid are two of the most powerful characters from each of their respective universes, Thanoseid is one power player. There has been just released a Thanoseid character for mugen. Here is some more information about the character:

The character is fun a powerful. It doesn't take all that many hits to beat your opponent into submission. My favorite move is when he super omega blasts diagonally. Any opponent trying to attack from the air will be hit.

WIP Focus: Dr. Doomsday by Tenchimuyo4ever

Volzzilla has shared with us another interview. This time with Tenchimuyo4ever who is working on bringing the Amalgam character known as Dr. Doomsday who is obvious a mashup of Doctor Doom and Doomsday. Here is the interview. Volzzilla's comments are in bold and the responses are unbolded.

As part of Amalgam week, I discussed how things are progression with the Dr. Doomsday WIP with Tenchimuyo4ever.

1) So how did you decide upon bringing Dr. Doomsday to MUGEN?

We were first going over our list of potential villains for the game and we noticed that Dr. Doomsday was the villain with the most appearances in the actual Amalgam comic history. Realizing that, we decided that he has to be in the game as a boss. Sic and I both knew that Deanjo, one of our sprite editors was already working on Doomsday and I originally wanted him to work on Dr Doomsday but he said his WIP list was pretty full and that he wanted to get more of them out way first. Looking at my own WIP list during the time, I figured that I needed a few more, so I decided to work on him myself. Even though I was going to design and sprite the character myself, I still wanted Dean to play a hand in his creation since he was working on Doomsday so he designed the original base. I tweaked it a little bit, created a stance and then AOS Dr Doomsday was born.

2) Please share your thoughts about his general comic back history and about the character in general.

When it comes in terms of power, the DC counterpart is pure strength
and not to mention the one character that has managed to kill Superman himself. To think of a character that powerful in terms of strength and then to have the high intelligence of Dr. Doom combined, would be a threat to the entire Amalgam universe. Like Dr Doom he's made the most appearances out of all the villains in the few published Amalgam comics and he's the type of character that can out match characters like FerroMan and Super Soldier alike. And to make things worse for the Amalgam heroes, his energy abilities are his actual abilities instead of being restrained to a suit of armor.

3) So tell the readers what bases you are using other than the obvious.

Well the bases are a little simpler than it looks. Obviously Zangief is part of the base while his upper body is Hugo from Sf4. The cape is taken from Dr Doom and the head and cowl are custom-sprited.

4) How is the progress going on Dr. Doomsday?

The progress is going great so far. I did have an earlier version of him coded for a video but I recently updated the sprites with more detail. Some of the punch animations are a little harder to create but with time and hard work it's something I can accomplish.

5) What has stood out the most during the creation process in a positive manner? What has been giving you the most trouble?

What stands out for this character is the feel you get when you look at that stance. The stance he uses look kind of unorthodox yet powerful - it's not the type of stance that someone would go into in a fight unless they were unmanageable and Dr Doomsday isn't too far from that. Also the animations that I have done so far make the good Doctor look like he's not putting in too much effort into some very powerful attacks. So far the basic attacks have been a little difficult to sprite being that Hugo is kind of very lanky in a lot of his poses.

6) What concepts for special and hyper moves can we expect from the Doomsday portion of the character? Same question, but from the Dr. Doom side. What other special and hyper moves that are totally unique can you share with the audience?

The Doomsday side of the character is going to be present in a lot of physical attacks. Dr. Doomsday is going to utilize attacks that are so powerful, that they will shake the entire screen. When Dr Doomsday walks, just his very footsteps make the entire screen shake, his grapples are going to be powerful enough to leave large craters in the ground and if you defeat him while his energy bar is full he can revive himself similar to how Gill can from Sf4, since Doomsday never dies =]. The Dr Doom side of the character is going to utilize many projectiles in a few different fashion, though he won't have as many as Dr. Doom, but the way he utilizes them have a more power effect being that he combines these abilities with his grapples.

7) Sounds like he will be very difficult to beat! Do you have any special plans in regards to intros/exits with any other characters?

I plan on him having special intros with Dr Doom and Doomsday both of course. I also plan on him having a special intro with FerroMan and possibly Super Soldier.

9) So what are your general thoughts on beta releases? Can you give a possible timetable on a beta to release and/or a goal for the full release?

Well being that he's one of the bosses of our game, he will be one of the later characters released…but don't worry Amalgam fans, I have another unannounced WIP to satisfy you until Dr Doomsday is done. I will be announcing this WIP sometime after one of my character releases =].

Mugen: Iron Man (Update )

Iron Man is one of my favorite characters. It has come to my attention that Magus has another version of Iron Man. He sent me a comment on YouTube asking me to use the latest version of his characters if I am going to compare them to others. I'd like to re-state here thatr I intended no harm at all. I used his older version of Iron Man in my poll because I really like it. The heavy artilley uni-beam move is cool.

Magus has really updated Iron Man a great deal. I like all the current hypers but I miss the previous one he called "Heavy Artillery Uni-beam". He was right this version is better. If you want to use Iron Man, Magus' version cannot steer you wrong.

Post Script: Written a day after the above.
This article has come out after I posted the video on YouTube. Magus has commented on the video as being lackluster because of my game play. He'd rather his videos be used to judge the power of his Iron Man. He thinks my video makes his character look bad. I would like to apologize...it wasn't my intention at all. If you notice I have only respect for this character. To be fair I have posted his videos here:

To also be completely honest...in comparing mugen characters several things need to be taken into account in watching videos, things like player skill. Difference in AI also makes computer-controlled matches hard to tell. Just for fun, I pitted Magus' Iron Man against Infinity Mugen Team's Iron Man. I think the best way to judge characters (not creators or players) is using both player controlled matches and AI controlled matches. No offense intended to anyone.

Mugen: Ferro Man

Ferro Man is an amalgram of Marvel Comics' Colossus and DC Comics' Ferro Lad (from the Legion of Superheroes). As stated in a previous post, there has just been a released version of Ferro Man for Mugen. It is really, really cool for only being a "Beta". I've had the opportunity to put Ferro Man against many other mugen characters and it more than held it's own. My favorite move is the hyper where he rips a big rock out of the ground and throws it. I also like the move where he shoots his fists at his opponent. The graphics are really well done also. I can't wait to see more. When you download this character and try it out (make no mistake you do want to try this out) keep the following from the Read ME file in mind

- Spriting: Sic-1
- Coding: Sic-1
- AI Coding: Twinimage
- Voice Acting: Kojunho
- Portrait: Crow
- Hyper Portrait: Tenchi
- Testers:Kojunho and Tenchi

WIP Focus: Ferro Man, Created by Sic-1

Volzzilla has provided all of us an interview with Sic-1. Concerning the creation of Ferro Man for the Amalgam project. Thanks to both of you! As always, Volzzilla's comments are bolded and the responses are unbolded.

1) So how did you decide upon bringing Ferro Man to MUGEN?

Well, at first Ferro Man was never going to be a part of the game, but Deanjo2000 made an edit of him and I really liked it. I then took time out to go back a read the comics with Ferro Man in them and I knew I just had to make him so he could be a part of our game.

2) Please tell me your thoughts about his general comic back history and about the character in general that helped influence that decision.

Ferro Man is Russian, and the main part of his back story is that his face is disfigured, which is why he wears that mask. The thing with Amalgam comics is with some of the characters in them, they never go into too much detail about them due to the comic event being for such a limited time. But the little that I read I liked. (editor’s note: You can read more yourself about him and other general Amalgam history by taking the following links, Amalgam Crisis Center and The Unofficial Guide to the Amalgam Universe).

3) Since it is obvious what bases you are using for the character animations themselves, please tell us some of the bases you are using for the various moves.

The hardest part about Ferro Man is to not make him feel like the base I'm using while making him. I wanted him to have a "Power House" feel to him. And I want people to know when they play as him that they got a powerful character in there hands.

4) Looking forward to him already. So how is the progress going on him? What has stood out the most during his creation process? Has anything given you trouble in that regard?

The good news is that Ferro Man is very close to being done! As in creation troubles, well just trying to come up with moves for him and trying to make his re-play value better and better…and I think that I have done so!

5) Please tell the readers about all the special and hyper moves you have planned.

Heh. The "BETA" of Ferro Man will have 4 specials and 3 hypers. The final version of him that will be in the game will be different than the beta; he will have all new specials and hypers. But as for the beta of Ferro Man, again I wanted to give the fans something new; I wanted to give them a powerful character with moves never before seen on a power house before.

6) As stated before during this event, every character in the Amalgam project will have a De-Amalgam move. Please tell us what you have planned for him in that regard.

The De-Amalgam hyper I would have to say is my favorite move for Ferro Man! As most people know, Amalgam Characters are a combination of "DC" and "Marvel" characters put together. The De-Amalgam move is where the Amalgam character splits into his counter parts and double teams the opponent. But sad to say, the De-Amalgam hypers will not be apart of the "Beta" characters and we have to keep Ferro Man’s a secret for now to keep the fans anticipation level high.

7) Understandable. So do you have any special plans in regards to intros/exits with Colossus or any other character?

Well, all of the Amalgam characters we are making will have custom intros for each other. As in custom intros for their counter parts, if they face them in MUGEN…not at this time for Ferro Man, but keep an eye out for any updates with every beta we release.

8) Any news you would like to share regarding a possible beta release?

Look for the first official beta release from SGM’s Amalgam Project to drop tomorrow! Be sure to check Sic Graphics Mugen - Amalgam Project and alfonsocm82's YouTube Channel for the actual release of a character I hope you all will enjoy.

Thanks, Fellas. As soon as possible each new release, including Ferro Man, will be announced with a review and a link to the project website.

WIP Focus: Iron Lantern, Created by Techimuyo4ever

Volzzilla had the opportunity to speak with Techimuyo4ever, the other co-administrator of SGM’s Amalgam Project. Techimuyo4ever was nice enough to give him this great interview and Volzzilla was nice enough to share it so I could post it so everyone can read it. Volzzilla's comments are in bold and Techimuyo4ever's answers are unbolded.

This WIP that started it all, Iron Lantern. Remember, that this was being created prior to the full Amalgam Project taking off, and actually led to the inspiration for the Amalgam project.

1) So how did you decide upon bringing Iron Lantern to MUGEN?

Well, when I first got into MUGEN, I was trying to find a comic book character no one had ever done before; someone completely different. After seeing all the DC and Marvel WIPs already in progress, I figured since I've always been an Amalgam fan to make the first Amalgam MUGEN character ever in Iron Lantern.

2) Please tell me your thoughts about his general comic back history and about the character in general.

After reading Iron Lantern #1, I felt that the character is an interesting mix of Hal Jordan and Tony Stark. It's really cool to see a character that has the weapon know-how of Tony Stark and having an armor that has the powers and abilities of a Green Lantern, but so much more. I also think that it was very interesting that his suit is made from Rhomman Sur's very ship.

3) That does sound interesting. So tell the readers, since it is obvious what bases you are using for the character animations themselves, please tell us some of the bases you are using for the various moves.

The bases for the animations are extremely varied. Just to name a few for the constructs, hypers and specials are Huitzil / Phobos, Pocket Akuma , the unknown soldiers robots, the unknown soldiers striker, Dr Doom, Sentinel , Dhalsim , Magneto , Dr Doom , Cable and a few handmade sprites. The animation that he uses to make the constructs are handmade and a lot of the larger constructs are hand made as well.

4) Sounds like a lot of work. How is the progress going on Iron Lantern? And what has stood out the most during his creation process. Has anything given you trouble in that regard?

The progress on him is going great, his sprite work is completely done and he is in the
process of being coded right now. What stood out most during his creation would be the reason he took me so long. I wanted to set him apart from just being an Iron Man edit. Also, I wanted him to feel like a mix between Green Lantern and Iron Man, but at the same time I wanted him to feel like his own character.

5) Please tell the readers about all the special and hyper moves you have planned.

I have quite a few special moves planned for him. You may have already seen
two in the preview videos (editor’s note: to the see the videos in case you missed them, go here, tenchimuyo4ever's YouTube Channel), a teleport and his repulser beam. His other specials include an ability that allows Iron Lantern to be able to form different weapons depending on what punch you are using. This is called weapon master and it features a machine gun, a laser gun, and a flamethrower. His other special not yet shown is called emerald charge; a move where Iron Lantern forms boosters on his back and then charges into the opponent. As for the hypers, aside from the emerald drill shown in the videos he will have a projectile hyper called emerald armor, a move where he forms an armor equipped with a large laser gun, as well as a timed hyper called Air Force assault, which creates a construct shaped like a compact plane equipped with smart bombs and lasers that devastate the opponent.

6) I've read that every character in the Amalgam project will have a De-Amalgam move. Please tell us what you have planned in that regard.

Iron Lantern will have quite and interesting De-amalgam. However, the only version of the character that will have this attack will be the final version. And for now, the De-Amalgam will have to stay a surprise. But when the final version is coded, I will be making a preview video with it featured.

7) Looking forward to the video already. Do you have any special plans in regards to intros/exits with Green Lantern, Iron man, or any other character?

He will have special intros with Iron Man and Green Lantern both. With Iron Man, he accuses him of being someone who stole his armor designs and with the Green Lantern, he will mistake him as another agent of Oa, the living planet.

8) Nice. So since everyone will be anticipating him that much more now, would like to share anything regarding a possible beta release?

The beta will be arriving soon and look forward to a few surprises later with this WIP.

We will keep an eye out on both, the beta and those surprises.

Creator Interviews: Sic Graphics Mugen (SGM) Amalgam Project

Volzzilla had the opportunity to speak with one of the team leaders, Sic-1, of the Amalgam. Project. His questions are in black and bold and his answers are in black unbolded. I really appreciate that Sic-1 gave Volzzilla time to answer questions and for Volzzilla to share this with all of us. This post will be talking about the Amalgam Mugen project and will not focus on a single character.

1) Please tell the readers all about the Amalgam project, when the team got together, how the team got together and how the idea for turning Amalgam into MUGEN came about?

The idea of turning Amalgam into MUGEN was in my co-administrator’s head, techimuyo4ever, longer than it was in mine. I wanted to start a project but had no idea what to do…Tenchi was already making Iron Lantern into a full character, and I always loved the Amalgam Comics in the 90's. So I talked to him about making a full game based off of the Amalgam Comics and he was down for it! From that day on, Tenchi and I looked for the best of the best for our team, and I think we found them!

2) Interesting. So I have noticed some Scruffy Dragon Production characters have Amalgam moves. Was there any cooperation towards that and your team project?

Well we do work with the Scruffy Dragon team on some things and after both their project, as well as own project is done we’ll continue with that. SGM and Scruffy Dragon Productions are coming together to do something for the MUGEN world that has never been done.... What is that you may ask?? You are just going to have to wait and see until then.

3) So what are all the current WIPs going through creation right now?

Almost every one of our characters is being made as we speak! And most of those are not being made by just one person; they are team WIP's, so they get done that much faster. Ferroman will be our first beta release, but soon after that Iron Lantern will follow. Super Soilder, Wraith, Dr.Doomsday, DarkClaw, NightCreeper, SpiderBoy, Bizarnage, and Thorion are all also being worked on right now.

4) Very nice, but I have noticed some of them do not have WIP topics on your message board. May I ask why that is the case with: Darkclaw, Nightcreeper, Spiderboy, and Thorian?

We are keeping some stuff hidden for now. But I can tell you it will not be long before people get to see them.

5) Judging by the communities love for Wolverine and Batman, it is a safe bet DarkClaw will be very highly anticipated. May I ask who is working on him, and what has the progress been like thus far?

DarkClaw is being worked on by every single member of the SGM team right now. The reason for this is because we know people would really like to see DarkClaw in the game and play as him...so we are making sure we are doing the very best job we can on him.

6) What other characters are planned WIPs for the future but not currently in production?

Nightspector, Madam Sapphire, Lobo the Duck, Hyena as well as perhaps a few other surprises, including the secret final boss character for our game.

7) I know I speak for many of the readers when I say that I love the general concept of Amalgam characters in MUGEN. Something else that stands out unique about the project are the De-Amalgam moves. Can you tell us more about the general concept behind such moves? Anything else unique you all have planned in regards to the theme of the characters and the project?

For any one that does not know, the De-Amalgam hyper will happen when the character branches out into the counterparts that form the character to deliver one devastating move. Well, these De-Amalgam hypers will be able to be stopped. If the character is hit during the time they are spliting up into their counter parts for the move, they will be forced to fuse back together but in a "Funny Mutated Mess" that should be entertaining for the player to see. We are also adding a second stance to our characters, meaning every character will have 2 stances. For more info on all that, you will just have to wait for the Full Game Release.

8) Please tell the readers what will be in store for them game play wise when the full game is released.

We have spent a lot of time thinking about this and we wanted to do something that has not been done before in a full game. We feel that the "Story Mode" of the game will give people the best MUGEN time they have ever had. And yes, I said "Story Mode".

9) That’s cool. Is there anything you can share story wise concerning your final game project?

Sad to say, but not right now. We have to keep a few more things as surprises for the fans.

10) So what are your thoughts on beta releases in general for characters from this project?

I see the beta releases as a sort of teaser trailer for our final game project. A good look into some of the characters before they get a chance to play the full game. In short, leaving the players with the thought of wanting to play our Amalgam game project that much more because of the time they spent with our beta released characters.

11) Any beta releases coming in the near future?

Keep an eye out for Ferroman sometime soon! And Iron Lantern will be coming not too long afterwards. He is the WIP that started this Project, so we are taking our time with him because we know there are a lot of fans out there highly anticipating him.

We will keep an eye out and the readers can do the same by checking out the following websites:
