Mugen: Parasite

As you probably already know Parasite has been updated by Buyog and  Jet the Phoenix. This character is probably the most ambitious for MUGEN in a technical sense. There is so much going on with the possible combination of powers the character existed that it is an amazing example of coding and spriting. I think Capcom, Midway, and Namco could stand to learn much from Buyog and Jet.

Lex Luthor updated to v1.5 for Scruffyversary

Download Location listed below: As part of 2010's Scruffyversary Blackest Night week event, Buyog has updated Lex Luthor. He has handled the bulk of the code, and Enzo the bulk of the sprites, but both were flanked by members of the Scruffy Dragon team and forum community.

The sprites look great and just like you would imagine Lex Luthor would look. I especially love the glow effect added to the brand new Oranger Lantern mode which is the main feature of this update. The only sprites I'm not big on is the stance as his lower body just looks a little stiff to me. The sound clips, which were also part of this update, are way above and beyond. His AI might be a little tough to some, but he does use all of his special and hyper moves to the best of his ability.

Every move created for Lex fits perfectly and really gives you a sense of the comic character. All of the moves are very responsive to command, and most are easy to pull off. I am however not a fan of the command string used for Nanite Swarm, so I edited it.

*Specials*
---------------
- Kryptonite Ray: Projectile beam with 3 different versions depending on punch button used. Can be done in the air.
- Stiletto Blades: Combination slash attack
- Electrified Armor: Can electrocute upon touch
- Tyrant Drill: Kicking attack. Can be done in the air
- Flamethrower: Projectile flame attack
- Energy Shield: Adds super armour ability
*Hypers*
-------------
- Failsafe Emission: Powerful energy shockwave attack
- Nanite Storm: Sends nanites after opponent
- Kryptonic Attack: Hyper beam projectile attack
- Tyrant Finisher: Combination rushing punch attack
*Orange Lantern mode*
--------------------------------
Moves that can be done only in this mode
- Orange Lantern Kryptonite Ray: Draws the opponent closer. Can be done in the air.
- Greedy Embrace: Grabs the opponent and squeezes with large hand constructs
- Personal Superhero: Creates a construct of Superman who attacks

I love this character but he has a few issues. As privately conveyed to Buyog w/an image, he was seen air-walking in AI testing. The Greedy Embrace special can be an infinite if the player times it perfectly due to not enough time for the opponent to recover. It also looks like he becomes unhitable when Greedy Embrace misses. And the AI can spam Kryptonite Ray a bit. The thing that stands out the most is how the damage can get a little out of hand from various moves being strung together. And the AI can really abuse this with how it can combine moves like Kryptonite Ray with Personal Superhero in a way a human player cannot. But I still like this character very much and I highly recommend him to everyone. Especially how Orange Lantern mode is utilized from the recent Blackest Night comics, making him more unique and fun to use.

Buyog's Lair : Buyog2099's MUGEN Creations

If you haven't looked at the Buyog's website or Scruffy Dragon, you should because Buyog has shared some developing tools for MUGEN that he has written and use. They are valuable and seems to be must haves if you want to develop characters for MUGEN. Judging by the quality of the characters he releases, they obviously work! He placed them in the Addons section of his website.

Mugen: Parasite

Buyog has released a new version of Parasite for MUGEN. IT is one of the most ambitious technologically character implementations in MUGEN that I know about. In case you have not seen or used this character before, it actually can steal and use powers from several different Marvel and DC characters for MUGEN. It's truly epic and supports multiple moves and many different characters. Check out Buyog's Parasite page for a complete list of supported characters and moves or check out the readme file. You can Download the character from Buyog's site or you can get it from Scruffy Dragon's site.I have an idea. I'm planning a post where I will create a special deck containing only characters that I have that Parasite interacts with and see what happens.

Mugen: Sinestro

Every iconic comic book hero character has a villain whom is just as iconic as the hero. The more interesting villains are like flip sides of the same coin minted as the hero. For Green Lantern, that arch rival has to be Sinestro. Over the years there have been many back stories, even several Green Lanterns, but he remains fairly consistent: egotistical, evil, and powerful. Here is a links with more information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinestro

There are two versions of him for mugen. One was created By GM.Spectre sprites for the D Fighter game and an updated version by Mogon, McCready, Larramones and Buyog. This post will only cover the updated version.

This version has been released 04-24-09 and as Buyog has mentioned that it's not complete. Despite that these guys have managed to turn out another character that is fun to play with! For this video I only showed the special moves because it's not complete yet. My favorite move is when he uses his ring to make a cage around his opponent. That's really fun. You should check this out.

Mugen: Elektra

Elektra is one of the most deadliest fighters in the Marvel Universe. She was one of she was an ex-girlfriend of Daredevil and is famous for two reasons: a. She is an excellent fighter and b. she was killed by Daredevil's arch rival Bullseye under the Kingpin's direction. Her death was a milestone for comic books because before that major characters never died. In addition, she proved to be so popular that her death was inevitably temporary. She was brought back. You can read more about her at following links:

I have found one version of her for mugen.

I enjoyed playing with this updated version. It's great. In his blog articles and readme, Buyog said its still not 100% complete but I don't care. It's still really fun to play. My favorite things is how she can throw shuriken (throwing stars) and sais. The way this character is shaping up she'll be more than a match for any ninja character in Mugen. In case I haven't been clear, I sincerely recommend that you add this one to your mugen!
