Lex Luthor updated to v1.5 for Scruffyversary

Download Location listed below: As part of 2010's Scruffyversary Blackest Night week event, Buyog has updated Lex Luthor. He has handled the bulk of the code, and Enzo the bulk of the sprites, but both were flanked by members of the Scruffy Dragon team and forum community.

The sprites look great and just like you would imagine Lex Luthor would look. I especially love the glow effect added to the brand new Oranger Lantern mode which is the main feature of this update. The only sprites I'm not big on is the stance as his lower body just looks a little stiff to me. The sound clips, which were also part of this update, are way above and beyond. His AI might be a little tough to some, but he does use all of his special and hyper moves to the best of his ability.

Every move created for Lex fits perfectly and really gives you a sense of the comic character. All of the moves are very responsive to command, and most are easy to pull off. I am however not a fan of the command string used for Nanite Swarm, so I edited it.

- Kryptonite Ray: Projectile beam with 3 different versions depending on punch button used. Can be done in the air.

- Orange Lantern Kryptonite Ray: Draws the opponent closer. Can be done in the air.
- Greedy Embrace: Grabs the opponent and squeezes with large hand constructs
- Personal Superhero: Creates a construct of Superman who attacks

I love this character but he has a few issues. As privately conveyed to Buyog w/an image, he was seen air-walking in AI testing. The Greedy Embrace special can be an infinite if the player times it perfectly due to not enough time for the opponent to recover. It also looks like he becomes unhitable when Greedy Embrace misses. And the AI can spam Kryptonite Ray a bit. The thing that stands out the most is how the damage can get a little out of hand from various moves being strung together. And the AI can really abuse this with how it can combine moves like Kryptonite Ray with Personal Superhero in a way a human player cannot. But I still like this character very much and I highly recommend him to everyone. Especially how Orange Lantern mode is utilized from the recent Blackest Night comics, making him more unique and fun to use.

Grudge Match: Superman vs Lex Luthor

It's always fun to watch arch rivals throw down. You Superman is going to win but it's always fun to see when Luthor puts on that battle armor. Here is a possible scenario.

Grudge Match: Lex Luthor vs Doctor Doom

So whom beats whom in an all-out battle: Lex Luthor or Doctor Doom? Both powerful, highly intelligent, and  both depraved - blaming others for their own unhappiness. I think if there was really a fight, Doom has an edge because he has no problem using magic and science! Comic Book Universe Battles forum has posted a possible scenario.

Grudge Match: Superman vs Lex Luthor

It's interesting to me that as powerful as Superman is his greatest enemy is just a really smart guy who wants to rule the world. Luthor has no powers on his own. The mugen version of Luthor is based on the time when the character used armor to fight Superman on a more equal physical level. By and large I expect Superman to find a way to win no matter what Lex Luthor pulls. Here is a fight staged in MUGEN.

Grudge Match: Steel vs Lex Luthor

I thought about what would happen if Lex Luthor (in his armor) fought Steel. In my opinion, Steel would win because Steel's armor is better (I think). Luthor is really smart but not smarter in that kind of technology. If he was, I'm sure that he would go all out on Superman and Luthor can't hang. Still it would be a great fight to see. I still think Steel would beat Luthor out of his armor.

Mugen: Lex Luthor

Lex Luthor is one of Superman's greatest enemies and of all the different depictions of Superman, the one constant villain who has appeared in every single incarnation is Lex Luthor. He's really intelligent, devious, and evil. He cares about nothing except empowering himself. The interesting thing about the TV series Smallville is that we get to see him become evil even as we see Clark Kent learn what it means to be a hero. We see both characters making decisions that mold them into what we know they will become. I have always thought that Luther was terrible, but after Smallville I feel sorry for him. Fortunately, Buyog and his team have seen fit to put him in Mugen. And they did a great job. He is wearing a rendition of his battle suit that he uses to fight Superman and the character is very formidable. Unfortunately, it's hard to see it in my tests because i kept getting but butt kicked. Here is a video of the tests I made
